Solar PV
Solar panels generate electricity on site, cutting the running cost the EPC is based on and making a rented home cheaper to live in — installed to MCS standards with the certificate you need for compliance and resale.
What it is
Roof-mounted photovoltaic panels with an inverter that turn daylight into electricity for the home, with any surplus exported to the grid. A typical domestic array is sized to the roof and the property's demand, and can be paired with battery storage.
Why it matters for 2030
The EPC is driven by modelled energy cost, and on-site generation lowers it, so solar can add points as well as cut bills. It also makes a property more attractive to tenants and buyers while energy prices stay high.
Which homes suit it
Properties with an unshaded roof of reasonable orientation — east through south to west — and sound roof structure. We assess shading, roof condition and the consumer unit before quoting, and flag if a re-roof should come first.
Grants that apply
Solar PV is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, and exported electricity earns payments under the Smart Export Guarantee. Some eligible households qualify for support under the Warm Homes: Local Grant; we check each case.
How we do it
We survey and design the array, install to MCS and RECC standards through our accredited partner LAMTANS Engineering, and hand you the MCS certificate and DNO paperwork for your compliance file and the next EPC.
Common questions
Does solar improve the EPC?
Yes — because the rating is based on energy cost, on-site generation lowers it and adds points, alongside the bill savings.
Who benefits from the electricity, me or the tenant?
In a let property the tenant uses the generation and sees lower bills; the landlord gains the EPC uplift and the asset value.
Do I need battery storage too?
No, but a battery lets more of the generation be used in the home rather than exported.
Is my roof suitable?
Most unshaded roofs are; we check orientation, shading and structure and tell you honestly if it is not worth it.
